Wat is permeatie - permeatie is een proces waarbij de moleculen van een chemische stof door een beschermende barrière (in dit geval de handschoen) dringen en aan de binnenkant diffunderen. Dit kan zelfs optreden als er geen gaatjes of openingen in de handschoen aanwezig zijn. De moleculen van de chemicaliën dringen in de beschermende laag en banen zich een weg naar binnen tussen de moleculen van het handschoenmateriaal door. In veel gevallen zal dit zelfs niet door het menselijk oog waar te nemen zijn. Permeatie prestatie niveaus worden verkregen door de tijd te meten die de chemische stof nodig heeft om door de beschermende laag (handschoen) te dringen.
Uit de palm van de te testen handschoen wordt een monster gesneden en zodanig in een proefcel geplaatst dat een scheidingswand ontstaat waarbij de buitenkant wordt blootgesteld aan de chemische stof door de cel aan deze zijde te vullen. Onze CMIG laboratoria zijn uitgerust met verschillende geavanceerde meetinstrumenten die alle chemicaliën , o.a. oplosmiddelen, zuren, basen, alcaliën en zouten, die zijn doorgebroken aan de binnenzijde van het oppervlak van het monster kunnen detecteren en registreren.
De tijdsduur van de testen om de doorbreektijden te bepalen kan oplopen tot meer dan 8 uur, conform de EN374.
